What is WebDAV

Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning, or WebDAV, is a set of extensions to the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) that allows computer users to edit and manage files collaboratively on web servers.

In simple terms is means you can write data to a web server which would otherwise be read only.

An examples of a WebDAV solution is an iCal calendar server.
