If a client is located at a premises where power cuts are likely, we will install an Uninterruptible Power Supply (aka UPS). These devices have a small battery pack that allows the server to carry on working for a short period, usually between 5 and 20 minutes. During a short power cut this means that you do not have to wait for the server to start before being able to carry on working.

As a simple business continuity solution, the combination of laptops and a server on a UPS (as well as the basic network infrastructure, (e.g broadband router & network switch) will allow a business to keep working during a short power cut.

If the power is likely to be out for a longer period of time, one option would be to temporarily relocate the server to another building. However, for this to work best, the new premises should have a broadband service with a static public IP address, so that remote access and email delivery (if the server is running our email module).

We offer our offices free of charge to any of our clients who need to temporarily relocate their server and have a number of spare public IP addresses reserved for this purpose.
