There are a number of ways to access the server from outside. They are almost all available, all of the time, from all locations.

For example, if properly configured, and you are using the Forget About IT™ email module, you should be able to access your email using your usual email program. For more information see here.

Via VPN

Using special software installed on your computer, you can connect to your office network and browse the server, print, and most of the things you are able to do in the office. It won't be as fast as being in the office. That is just a limitation of the speed of the broadband access at both ends.

Connect via VPN on Mac (OS X)

Here are the quick steps:

  • Click on Tunnelblick icon Tunnelblick Icon (top right near the clock)
  • Click on the vpn-to-office connection in the menu list
  • If prompted for authentication, enter your company credentials:
    • username: <your_username> e.g richard (you should now know it! - same as to access webmail - in doubt contact your IT support team for confirmation)
    • password: <your_password> (you should now know it! - same as to access webmail - in doubt contact your IT support team for confirmation)
  • Once connected when mousing over the Tunnelblick icon you should see the connection status:
    • Green - means connected
    • Yellow - means connecting - something is blocking the connection (e.g wrong password or else). Disconnect and try again. If issue persist contact us.

Once connected successfully (green status)...

  • Open the Finder app (used to browse files)
  • Then open the Go menu > Connect to server
  • Select the server (shall be pre-confirgured to something like smb://server)
  • Connect
  • If prompted for authentication, use your company account credentials (same as above)
  • Connect
  • Choose a shared folder you want to access

You should now be connected to it, and the server is now available in the Finder app :-)

Web Browser

Using any standards-based web browser you can access a series of web-based programs. These include a file browser (which enables you to download or upload files to and from the server; Webmail, a complete web-based email client allowing you access to all your emails; the Shared address Book system, and your Wiki.

In any web browser, go to https://your_server_name/ where <your_server_name> is the name of your server. By default, we set up remote.<your_domain_name>, but it might also be mail.<your_domain_name>, server.<your_domain_name> or office.<your_domain_name>. Please remember the s in https://.
